AKWATEK® is a registered trademark of Comfort Technologies, Inc licensed to Alice Lace Co., Ltd of Taiwan. Akwatek® is a finish that is applied to polyester based fabrics to help warm or cool the body during outdoor activity. Akwatek® pulls moisture away from the body, and creates a vapour barrier that cools the body in warm temperatures, and warms the body in cold temperatures. Unlike most moisture transport fabrics that rely on fabric construction or chemical coatings to pull sweat away from the body, Akwatek® modifies the molleculer structure of the fiber providing a "chemical magnet" which uses the inherent properties of water to move it away from the body as needed. Termed "electrochemical transport", this process separates and moves molecules of water using the positive and negative charges contained in each individual molecule. As a result, garments made of Akwatek® can heat one area of the body while cooling another.

FIELDSENSOR® is a registered trademark of Toray Industries®. Fieldsensor® is a technical fabric designed to wick moisture through fabric construction. The spaces between fibers decrease in volume as you move from the fabric's inner surface to its outer surface. The high-volume spaces near the skin quickly absorb moisture and transport it away from the skin to the outer surface, where increased capillary action disperses the moisture for quick evaporation. Torray combined the Fieldsensor® technology with the four-way stretch of spandex for the manufacturer of form fitting garments such as bike shorts and tights.

HYDRATOR® is a registered trademarks of Hind®, a division of Saucony®, Inc. Hydrator® is a polyester based fabric that utilizes two different surface textures to manage moisture. The smooth inner surface absorbs moisture and pushes it to the breathable open texture of the outer surface for rapid evaporation. Variations on the Hydrator® fabric technology allow Hind® to achieve specific technical properties for different climate conditions:
BRUSHED HYDRATOR MESH 100% polyester in a mesh construction allows air to circulate while it lays comfortably against the skin. The mesh construction lets air in while remaining opaque. Air and water pass through fibers, but UV exposure is minimized.

HYDROFLEX®is a registered trademark of Consoltex®. Hydroflex®is a polyurethane-based coating that is laminated to nylon or polyester to creates a durable, waterproof, breathable, wind-resistant fabric used in outerwear.

HYDROWEAVE® is a registered trademark of AquaTex Industries, Inc.®. HydroWeave® is a three-layer composit fabric that combines special hydrophilic fibers (fibers that attract water) and hydrophobic fibers (fibers that reject water) into a fibrous batting core. The batting is sandwiched between a breathable outer shell fabric and a thermally conductive, inner lining. Hydroweave® separates the wearer from moisture, and acts as the critical conduit for exchanging user heat with cooling comfort. Soaking Hydroweave in water for five minutes activates the cooling process, charging the hydrophilic fibers with moisture. The hydrophobic fill evenly distributes and surrounds the charged fibers with air, creating an ideal environment for evaporation. When moisture in the batting evaporates, heat is removed, cooling the surrounding area while the conductive lining transfers cooling to the wearer. When in contact with the wearer’s skin heat passes directly from the body to Hydroweave based on the difference in temperature between the body and the garment. The heat that transfers to Hydroweave is released to the outside environment by evaporation of the water in the garment. Because of the even distribution of water-absorbent polymer throughout Hydroweave’s batting, cooling is provided evenly throughout the entire garment and can continue to cool for up to eight hours depending on the degree of garment contact, environmental conditions, wearer physical activity, and type of outer clothing worn.

INCYTE is a Brushed Tactel®/Lycra® with an Aquapass® finish.

INNOVA®, is a registered trademark of American Fibers and Yarns Co. Innova® is a filament polyolefin (polypropylene) yarn used in base layer fabrics because of its moisture-management, insulative and quick-drying properties. Innova® is a hydrophobic yarn, "water hating", meaning that no moisture is absorbed into the fiber. Perspiration moves away from the skin along the shaft of the fiber to the outside of the garment to be evaporated. Innova® polyolefin has the lowest thermal conductivity rating of all natural and synthetic fibers. Thermal conductivity is the rate at which a substance loses heat. Because of Innova's® low rating, garments retain body heat allowing the athlete cool down slowly after exercising without getting chilled.

INTERA®, is a registered trademark of Intera Technologies, Inc. Intera® fabrics have a hydrophilic (water loving) molecule bonded to the surface of the fiber. This molecule attracts the water and spreads it out over a greater surface area, where it rapidly evaporates.

LYCRA®, is a registered trademark of E.I.DuPont de Nemours and Co. Lycra® is a man-made elastomeric fiber, known as spandex in the US and Canada and as elastane in Europe.
In technical terms, Lycra® is a "segmented polyurethane." While Lycra® appears to be a single, continuous thread, it is actually a bundle of tiny filaments. It's this unique molecular structure that gives LYCRA® its built-in, lasting elasticity. Stretch it four to seven times its original length, yet the fiber still returns to its starting size once the tension is released.
Lycra® is used in a lot of cycling apparel because it allows the garment to fit like a second skin without being uncomfortable and binding. The higher the Lycra® content in a fabric, the more stretch and recovery the fabric will have.
